The Support Services Section provides a variety of support functions for the Police Department. The Support Services Section currently consists of a police sergeant, two police officers and one civilian property and evidence technician.

The Support Services Section is responsible for facilitating the yearly training required by Nevada POST that is outlined in Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). This training includes a minimum of 24 hours of training per officer and includes such topics as: range training and qualification, defensive tactics, hazardous materials, first aid/CPR and more. The Sparks Police Department typically provides well over the minimum requirements to our officers. In addition to the state mandated training, personnel are sent to specialized training throughout the year. The Support Services Section coordinates the travel and training aspects of this training. The sergeant assigned to the Support Services Section also supervises the police officer assigned to the Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy. This regional police academy is operated by the Reno Reno Police Department; Sparks Police Departments; Washoe County Sheriff’s Office; and partnership with Truckee Meadows Community College.

The Support Services Section also coordinates the community based programs offered by the Sparks Police Department. Requests for officers at job fairs, department tours or community events such as the Sparks Rotary “Kids Free Fishing Day” are handled by the Support Services Section sergeant. The sergeant also supervises and assists the Police Department’s volunteer program, Neighborhood Watch program and ALERT program. The Support Services Section coordinates involvement in the Truckee Meadows Regional Citizens Academy and our role in the Kids to Seniors Korner program.
